SPRING 2024 Offerings at Kings Park

Kings Park/Kings Glen PTA coordinates after-school and enrichment programs for our students. Most programs run for eight weeks, and meet once a week immediately after school. Different programs are offered during the fall, winter and spring.

Kid Create: Awesome Art!: Mondays 3:30-4:30, Cafeteria (Flyer)

If you think art is awesome, this is the class for you! We’ll explore all the coolest art materials as we learn drawing techniques, create with clay, and paint on real canvas boards. We’ll even create a beach scene out of real candy! Art really is awesome!

Magnus Chess Academy: Tuesdays 3:30-4:30, Cafeteria (Flyer)

Magnus Chess Academy (formerly Silver Knights) has been teaching chess in Fairfax County since 2008. Over that time period we’ve taught more than 30,000 students in after school clubs, before school clubs, and camps. They include kids who’ve won seventeen state championships and four national championships, but most of our students are beginners looking to learn a fun new game. That’s how all the champions start out too!

Girls on the Run (GOTR): Tuesdays AND Fridays 3:30-4:30, Outside (Flyer)
**3RD GRADE GIRLS ONLY**

Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

Kids in Motion – Sports Mix: Wednesdays 3:30-4:30, Outside (Flyer)

Sports Mix includes Run Club, Flag Football, Basketball and Soccer for K-3 students. During basketball, flag football, and soccer, athletes start with warm ups, move on to master the basics of dribbling, shooting, passing, and catching, before being able to scrimmage. Coaches engage the kids in super fun running warm ups, such as sharks and minnows, tag games, and team racing competitions at the start of class. During Run Club, students run for fun and practice the fundamentals of walking, power walking, jogging, running and sprinting so they can learn to pace themselves and run further each class. Sports Mix is all about fun fitness and learning new skills. It’s a great way to be active and constructive after the school day!

Tiny Chefs: All American Diner: Thursdays 3:30-4:30, Cafeteria

We’ve assembled some of our favorite recipes to create the ultimate All-American Diner Challenge!  Each week students will learn how to make the daily special—with a twist! They will be challenged to use a “secret ingredient” to keep the menu fresh and not let any food go to waste. Our Tiny Chefs will also be challenged to use their imaginations and new-found culinary knowledge to plan their own restaurants. If your Tiny Chef loves Top Chef and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, this is the class for them!

Run Fit Kids: Tuesdays 3:30-4:45, Field *Grades 2-6 (Flyer)

RunFit Kidz is designed to teach youths of all fitness levels about proper running mechanics, nutrition/hydration, pacing and goal setting.  The class will include dynamic warm-ups, strengthening and speed drills, form, stretching and plenty of games.  Our commitment is for children at all levels to run better, faster, and smarter and for the students to end the 7 or 8-week program with increased running knowledge and enhanced love for being active.  The program concludes with a 5k run/walk that is held locally.
